Open Streets 614

  • 12 West Gay Street Columbus, OH, 43215 United States (map)

The City of Columbus is once again putting on a series of Open Streets events. An "open street" means people traffic replaces car traffic, and streets become places where people of all ages, abilities and background can come out and be active. The idea is to re-imagine how we use our streets, putting people over cars.

This year, the city of Columbus is partnering with DCI to host three open streets events downtown. Half of high street will be open for a “roll lane” and the other half will host various activities in vendors.

Volunteers:

  • Role: Help manage the "Roll Lane" where people will be biking, scootering, rollerblading, etc. Volunteers will be stationed at either end to instruct folks on how to utilize the lane and provide safety tips as they enter/exit, as well as assist with any pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Gay and High streets. Additional volunteers may be asked to demonstrate appropriate use of the Roll Lane by riding their own mobility device.

  • Attire: We will have branded Open Streets neon vests for volunteers to wear that day, so they can plan to wear comfortable, appropriate attire and shoes that day.

  • Arrival/shift time: 11 am, meet outside of Hank's at the corner of Gay and High. Ideally all volunteers are able to stay through the duration of the event (12-4 pm) but if shifts are necessary based on availability, that is fine as well.
