How to Get Involved
Change doesn’t just happen. We make it happen.
At transit Columbus, we win change through community organizing and empowering everyday people with the knowledge and skills to win the changes our city’s residents deserve. You don’t need to be an urban planner to know that our current system needs to be better. From teaching you who to contact about issues in your neighborhood to working collectively to fight for safer streets, we ensure that our members all have a part to play in making change now and in the future.
Attend a Transit Columbus meeting
We host a general meeting every second Tuesday of the month at the Main Library. These meetings are open for everyone to attend.
At our monthly meeting, we give updates on transit, bike, and pedestrian projects happening around the city; host guests from COTA, the Department of Public Service, MORPC, and others to speak on specific topics, ask questions, and hear from TC members; and provide trainings and opportunities to advocate for better transit service and infrastructure.
See our calendar for more details and follow us on social media where we post agendas for upcoming meetings.
Join a working group
Our Policy Working Group focuses on moving our campaigns forward by pushing for policy changes, helping our members provide feedback on policy changes, and meeting with city and agency staff to advocate for the changes our members want to see.
Even if you have zero policy experience, you can join these meetings to dive deeper into our campaigns, learn more about the advocacy process, ask questions, and learn more about the things we’re fighting for.
Our Engagement Working Group creates opportunities for everyday people to join our efforts and get involved in the work. They manage our events, build partnerships with other organizations and out in the community, and help build the fabric of civic engagement that’s needed to create change.
Engagement is always looking for folks who love to work with volunteers, plan events, and serve as community ambassadors. But even if you have zero event and engagement experience, you can join the working group meetings to learn about upcoming opportunities and share your insights on how to bring people into the fold.
Our Communications Working Group is the creative backbone of the organization, ensuring that we’re sharing vital information and opportunities to make your voice heard, helping educate our friends and neighbors about important topics, and highlighting the challenges we’re trying to address and the joys and possibilities of a work with better transit and mobility options.
Comms is always looking for folks to help with writing, graphic design, video, social media, website content, and more. But even if you have no experience, join the meetings to contribute ideas and be part of the creative process.
If you're looking for a place to plug in or just want to dive a little deeper, our working groups give you the opportunity to collaborate with other Transit Columbus members to make an impact.

Volunteer with us
From building benches to tabling at events to bus stop canvassing, we’re always in need of volunteers who can spare a few hours to help share information and make a real impact.
Check our meetings and events page for upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Transit Columbus is an all-volunteer organization. Our work is only possible through the generous contributions of our neighbors and our communities.
A donation to Transit Columbus means another bench we can build at a bus stop, another educational video we can create, another tool we can purchase, another room we can rent for an event, another bill we can pay to keep this community-powered operation going.
Please consider a recurring donation to help your neighbors fight for the city we all deserve.
